Stay in the Kavanaugh House (left most Painted Lady)!

It’s not often that you get to stay in a historic home, especially one of the most famous homes in the world. The Kavanaugh House (on the left of the row in the photo above), at the corner of Steiner and Grove streets in San Francisco, was built in 1892 and is the anchor home of the Painted Ladies of Postcard Row on Alamo Square Park. The architect of all of the Painted Ladies, Matthew Kavanaugh, built this home first and made it his own residence.

The current owners purchased it in 2014 and have lovingly restored it, as Houzz covered back in December 2015. Since then, the Kavanaugh House has gotten a fresh coat of paint from Benjamin Moore and has even gone solar with Sunrun Solar. The owners maintain a great website detailing all of the restorations and improvements while keeping the historic character.

Now that this home is one of the newest Homesuite monthly furnished rental options, you can stay here by the month. As you can imagine, it’s not cheap, but it’s still less on a nightly average than most of San Francisco’s nicer hotels. The one-bedroom apartment being offered on Homesuite has its own private entry and is physically separate on the lower first floor of the house. The owners live on the floors above.

The newly renovated and reopened Alamo Square Park is a perfect vantage point for all of the Painted Ladies. Curbed San Francisco has some great photos of the park after its $5.3 million renovation.
